Adoptions and Guardianship

Guardianship of Child

Guardianship of children often requires a person who does not have legal parental rights to petition the court to grant him status as a “psychological parent.” Often (but not required) this person may be a grandparent or other blood-relative, and the biological parent(s) consent to temporary guardianship of her child,  or the court finds that the  parent(s )jeopardizes the health, safety and welfare of the child. California Guardianship laws are found within the California Probate Code. Visitation Plans are important aspects of continuing established bonds between the child and guardians if the court terminates the guardianship. Reunification counseling is often a part of the process of reestablishing the parent-child bond prior to the termination of guardianship if found to be appropriate.  Mary Chubb has experience representing  guardians, as well as parents who contest guardianship.
